Using the alignment stripe on most golf balls has really helped me on short putts. I see a different line once I step over the ball than I did from behind it, and the alignment stripe has save me many short putts. Try putting both with using the alignment stripe and without it.

Hi David, I am 62 years young & took up golf about 6 years ago. I have never really suffered from nerves at golf because I played a fair bit of amateur sport when I was younger & probably left my nerves there.I think I might be a bit too casual in my approach to golf,is there anything you might suggest that I should do to reawaken my nerves?

Summer is the best time to go to Arizona for golf, because the rates drop and so do the hotel rates. You just have to work at getting early morning tee times so you beat the mid day heat. I was in Scottsdale last week and played on the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale and it was amazing. I hadn't played on such a nice course in a while. They told me the greens had just been installed by Evergreen Turf. Pretty sure the fresh sod really made a difference, it definitely reminded my why I love visiting Scottsdale where I can play on such a reputable course, like TPC Scottsdale and the plethora of other course in the area.

I completely agree that playing good golf is a matter of confidence. If you're feeling good about your game, you'll play well, but if you're having a bad day and feeling down, it's almost certain that you'll shoot a high score. Personally, I find that training your mind and concentration helps tremendously (I use yoga for this).

Great post. I try to get this point across to one of my buddies I play with. As soon as he hits a bad shot, the rest of the round is shot. Since this usually happens on the 1st hole, the rest of the day becomes a challenge. All he can do is think about that one bad shot, which leads to many more bad shots.

I agree with you. All we ever have is right "now". The past is gone, the future has happened yet so in reality, all we ever have is "this" moment. The ego is good at making us forget that though. Thanks for the post and the reminder to stay present. Take it easy.

Hi Dexter, thanks for the comment. Completely agree, you have to play Harbor Town if you can! Love that area of the US and can't wait to go back! I'm also currently doing a golf coaching school in the Dominican Republic with Nick Faldo's former coach, Eben Dennis. Let me know if you'd like to hear more. Best, David

Great post. I'm heading to Hilton Head in July. I'm staying at Shipyard Plantation. I am going to try and get a tee time for Harbor Town. The plan is to play the courses at Shipyard but I don't think the trip would be complete unless I play the "lighthouse course."

Hey Jesus, although a little too technical for me, I appreciate the contribution. I go for a purely visualization and feel approach to golf teaching and learning how to optimize the mind for improving performance.

I discovered that visualization of the shot trajectory affects the shoulder tilt. In a drive, the right shoulder tilts down more and therefore in the downswing the right elbow tends to tuck in more inside leading to a more inside to outside swing path.
